Manual Lymphatic Drainage Finchley
It may sound rather medical, but manual lymphatic drainage, or MLD, is actually a very delicate form of massage. It was developed in the 1930s, and since then has been used to improve metabolism, help eliminate waste and boost the immune system.
Questions about Manual Lymphatic Drainage Finchley :
How Does It Work?
Your lymphatic system is responsible for helping fluid and waste leave the body and for regulating the immune system. When the system becomes blocked, fluid builds up and stagnates, making us sluggish and more susceptible to viral or contagious diseases. By stimulating this system through massage, we can help it work more efficiently.
What Should I Expect?
As with all of my treatment plans, we begin with a consultation to explore your history and needs, and identify the best course, frequency and number of treatments for you.
The massage itself utilises a very light pressure combined with soft pumping movements in the direction of the lymph nodes. This process can take anywhere from 30 minutes, if we’re concentrating on a specific area, up to two hours, when working on the whole body.
What Is It Good For?
Manual lymphatic drainage massage is especially good if you suffer regularly from common illnesses like colds and flu. It is recommended for people who lead sedentary lifestyles, or those who want to reduce puffiness or swelling, and has been reported as positively affecting problem skin, cellulite, dysfunctional respiratory systems and people with low energy.
Is It Suitable For Everyone?
People with acute inflammation, malignant tumours, thrombosis or major heart problems should not use manual lymphatic drainage. Because of its effect on the immune system, people with cancer, diabetes, thyroid or kidney problems, asthma or epilepsy should seek medical advice before treatment. It is also advisable that women do not undergo lymphatic drainage while menstruating.
