Combining Acupuncture with Cupping

Headache? Backache? Aches and pains? Painful knees? As an Acupuncturist, “Pain” is one of the symptoms patients come to ask for help.

Everyone is different and hence the cause of pain needs to be ascertained and then treated accordingly.

I have increasingly been using “cupping “treatment in my practice. It is great for a number of things, and works for pain relief when indicated. Again depending on each case presented, cups may be retained for 30 seconds to 20 minutes. It can vary.

A lady came to me after being referred to me by her husband. He had found the combination of Acupuncture and Massage beneficial. She however needed a different approach as her back was by far in a worse state and needed “extra” help. When I mentioned “Cups”, she was familiar with it as she mentioned her grandmother used to use Cups on them when she was younger to stay healthy!

The result was that her back is much improved although we still have a long way to go. She is now much better and not having sharp spasms as such when she moves. Also she is more comfortable in bed and can sleep better. To simplify, with regards to pain relief, Cupping helps bring fresh blood to the area, and helps soften the tissue and relax the area.
